NEWS:: PASTOR DIES TRYING TO CREATE WATER CHANNEL IN ILLORIN

The pastor of a church in Ilorin, Kwara State, was swept away
by flood on Tuesday following an early morning heavy rain that
lasted for about seven hours.

The pastor, whose name has yet to be ascertained as of press
time, was said to be creating water channel for the erosion
when he suddenly slipped into a drainage channel and got
washed away.

He was said to have been drowned and died before assistance
could reach him.
Residents told our correspondent in Ilorin that the pastor
usually volunteered to create water channels any day there
was downpour.

The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi
Okasanmi, confirmed the death of the pastor.

He stated that the remains of the pastor had been deposited at
the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital’s morgue.
Okasanmi in a statement on Tuesday warned people defacing political posters and pulling down billboards to desist from
such indulgences.

He reminded the perpetrators of such acts that they were
violating the law, and said the police command would not
hesitate to arrest such culprits and ensure that they were
prosecuted.

He urged residents of the state to remain peaceful and law-
abiding and go about their normal business without any fear of
intimidation.
